National Chemical Database Service

The Service offers access to a suite of commercial databases and services, with additional development to create a chemistry data repository to take place.

UK academic institutions are eligible for access to the Service. The service will initially be authenticated on institutional IP and we have pre-populated with the majority of UK institutions. A username and password can be obtained if IP authentication isn't possible. We will build in Shibboleth authentication during 2013, and review these access mechanisms when Shibboleth is available.

What services are available?

Click the links for specific access details:

ACD/I-Lab2
Click on the ACD/I-Lab2 button on this page — IP authenticated users will have immediate access.
Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) from CCDC
For first access click on the CSD button on this page — this will take you through a Terms and Conditions form and when we receive the completed form we will send you a username and password for the xwindows access to the CSD. Access to this version of the CSD, including Conquest and Mercury, can be done via suitable access software (help provided).

We will be trialling access to WebCSD shortly to enable easier access to the CSD resources. More information available shortly.
DETHERM from the Dechema
Click on the DETHERM button on this page — IP authenticated users will have immediate access
SPRESIweb from InfoChem
Click on the SPRESIweb button on this page — IP authenticated users will have immediate access
Available Chemicals Directory from Accelrys
Click on the Available Chemicals Directory button on this page — IP authenticated users will have immediate access
Inorganic Crystal Structure Database from Fiz Chemie

What is the RSC's vision for the Service?

We intend to build the Service for the future - to develop a chemistry data repository for UK academia, and to build tools, models and services on this data store to increase the value and impact of researchers' funded work. We will continue to develop this data store through the lifetime of the contract period and look forward to working with the community to make this a world-leading exemplar of the value of research data availability.

The Service also offers access to a suite of commercial databases and services. Building on the databases most popular with the user community we will deliver new data and services and optimize the offering based on user feedback.
